Darko Gunjic, Radio Talk Show Host in Banja Luka Attacked

Darko Gunjic, DJ and Talk-Show host at the Banja Luka based BIG Radio, was attacked and beaten up by three unindentified assailants on Wednesday night. The attack took place in front of Gunhic’s home in the Nova Varos quarters of Banja Luka, around 23:00 hours.

"They swore at BIG Radio and its owner Ljubisa Buco Kragulj, and threatened to kill me if I continue to host the 'Blablaonica' (Blah-Blah-Thon) show. I have no idea who they were, or why was I attacked. I am deeply shaken. This is the first time something like this happened to me", said Gunjic.

Snjezana Vujic, the on-duty MD at the Ophtalmology Department of teh Banja Luka Clinical Centre, confirmed that Gunjic was brought in on the night between Wednesday and Thursday. She said that his injuries were treated, and after the emergency room team determined that there was no danger to his eye-sight, Gunjic was released home.

Ljubisa Kragulj, owner of BIG Radio and Candidate for the Office of the Mayor of Banja Luka on the list of Serb Democratic Party (SDS), condemned the attack and called on the authorities to find and apprehend the attackers as soon as possible.

The Mayor Dragoljub Davidovic strongly condemned the attack and demanded immediate action by the Police.

"The attack on Gunjic is an attack on the freedom of expression. No citizen of Banja Luka can remain indifferentr to such violence", said Davidovic in his statement for the press.

The other political parties, as well as the "Novi Reporter" magazine condemned the attack.

The Cooridination of Journalist Associations in B&H also condemned the attack on Gunjic. The Coordination demanded from the authorities to take immediate action and investigate the circumstances of the attack on Gunjic, and to duly inform the public about the results of the investigation.

The Coordination’s release reminded the journalists and reporters to report all attacks and threats to which they were submitted to the Media Help-Line, which operates under the auspices of the Coordination, in order to receive adequate protection and assistance.
