Albanian Centre for Human Rights ACHR was established in March 1992 as an indipendent non-governmental organisation that is dedicated to promote knowledge and education of Human Rights Institutions,Standarts and Procedures in the process of developing a stable civil society In March this year a consortium of international free-speech and human rights organisations (Article 19, Human Rights Watch, Index on Censorship, International Helsinki Federation for Human Rights, Inter Press Service, Institute for War & Peace Reporting, OneWorld Online and Reporters Sans Frontières) collaborated with journalists from the independent Albanian newspaper Koha Jone and other Albanian writers to produce an issue of the paper whose offices were burned out, journalists attacked, and key articles censored. Several of the journalists who contributed to this special issue have since left Koha Jone to found a new daily in Tirana, called the Indipendent. The primary goals of CCI are to facilitate the development of democracy and civic society in Macedonia, and to involve citizens in education and action to promote positive changes in their community. CCI will conduct a wide variety of activities and projects to achieve these goals, thereby increasing the participation of Macedonian citizens in the process of building a better and more open democratic society.
