MASSO Presents Homophobia Awards
|
On the occasion of May 17, the International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO), The Macedonian Association for Free Sexual Orientation (MASSO), organized several activities.
Over the one year between IDAHO 2006 and 2007, MASSO conducted a monitoring of the media in Macedonia, regarding the approach to coverage of LGBT topics and issues and presence of homophobia. The monitoring didn’t register spreading of homophobia in the media, with the exception of a case of self-impalement patient received by the Emergency Ward of Skopje’s Clinical Centre, and the note in “Spic” daily on the request by MASSO that professor Georgi Cadlovski’s licence is annulled for he still treats, both in his books and in practice, homosexuality as mental disorder. Also, MASSO named Dragan Pavlovic-Latas, journalist and editor at Sitel TV and “Vecer” daily, the most homophobic public personality in the country, an award well deserved by his constant and persistent dissipation of completely incorrect and inadequate jokes directed at the homosexual population. MASSO also presented its new book “Pregled” (Overview) that offers comparative analysis of international law, LGBT related legal framework, documented cases of discrimination and organization’s recommendations to overcome the existing situation. |
