Call for Collaborators for "Ex-YU Travellers Guide Book" Project

The BIRO Civic Association and EXIT Festival announce a competition for young authors from Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, Macedonia and Kosovo, to work on the "Ex-YU Travellers Guide Book" project. The project aims to prepare a cultural guide for young travellers from the region, with emphasis on contemporary pop-culture and youth lifestyles.

The Guide should provide basic information on local cultural scenes and alternative lifestyles in chosen cities in Serbia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Croatia, B&H and Macedonia. One collaborator will be chosen from each of these countries.

The criteria for selection of authors shall include:
  • Past experience in working on similar projects;
  • Knowledge of local art scenes; and
  • Social engagement and activism.

BIRO and Exit invite all interested authors to send their CV’s to vodic@biro.org, no later than April 20, 2007.

Together with the CV, the candidates should send written descriptions of 5 “locales” in their respective cities or towns. By locale, we don’t think only of recognizable tourist spots, but primarily city and cultural life: galleries, clubs, cafes, record stores, the music scenes (alternative bands, DJs, publishers), second-hand shops, wine cellars and breweries, cult bakeries and pastry shops, parks, gathering places, etc. Shortly – everything that one considers authentic and characteristic in one’s urban area.

This is not a classic “tourist guide”. Therefore, don’t be shy to present your own personal views and comments. Make your presentations representative, informative and funny.

The project will be implemented in May-June 2007.
