Belgrade International Underwater Film Festival wins UN Recognition
On the occasion of March 22, the World Water Day 2007, the efforts of the International Underwater Film Festival (IUFF) in Belgrade were recognized by the UNEP MAP (UN Environmental Programme), for its role as one of the most important European film festivals dedicated to and promoting protection of world’s water.
IUFF is held for ten years now and is ranked as one of the greatest festivals of its type in the world. Its official motto is “Let Waters Always Be Clean”. The Festival is sponsored by the City Council of Belgrade, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Science and Environmental Protection (the Bureau of Environmental Protection) and Stari Grad Municipality. The Festival is organized by Belgrade Underwater Activities and Divers Club, the Youth Club (Dom Omladine) and Yugoslav Film Library, in cooperation with the Goethe Institute, US Embassy, Italian Cultural Centre, the Cervantes Centre, French Cultural Centre, British Council, University of Arts and Academy of Fine Arts from Novi Sad. The UN declared the whole decade (2005-2015) the international decade of protection and preservation of water and waterways. The “Water for Life” Decade officially started on March 22, 2005, the World Water Day. |
