“Milosevic Trial Heritage” Conference
|
Over the coming period of time, the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Serbia will organize six sessions on key subjects from our immediate past, with the support by the Open Society Fund.
Next Saturday, March 31, a debate will be held dedicated to the most important trial held so far in front of the International Criminal Court for Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) - the trial of Slobodan Milosevic. The Helsinki Committee believes that the legal and political implications of the trial, in spite of the fact that it didn’t result in a decision, due to Milosevic’s death, are too important to be expelled from the public discourse. The Committee has in mind not only the differing interpretations of wars and war crimes, including genocide, in former Yugoslavia, but also the indisputable need for renewed trust between the newly-created states and regional stability. The chief prosecutor in that case, Geoffrey Nice, Srdja Popovic, a lawyer, and other persons are expected to take part in the conference. Also, during the conference, a screening of BBC’s documentary on Milosevic’s trial will be screened. Simultaneous translations will be provided. The Helsinki Committee invites you to participate in the conference that will be held at the facilities of “Aeroklub” Belgrade (Uzun Mirkova ulica br. 4/II, Beograd). The people interested in participation should confirm their presence to Klara Azulaj at phone 063/217-106. |
