March 8 in Sarajevo: March For Your Rights!
|
The CURE Foundation, Youth Initiative for Human Rights (Belgrade), the Multimedia Performing Arts Centre (Skopje) and Wings of Hope invite you to join the “March for Your Rights!” action in Sarajevo.
The action aims to point out the discrimination women in all areas of social living in B&H and emphasize that March 8 is, in fact, the day when the women started their long fight for equality in political and other decision-making, employment and, in particular, education. The organizers wish to deconstruct the stereotypes and deeply-rooted patriarchal practice to buy gifts and flowers and celebrate March 8 as the only day in the year in which the women should feel special. The protest march shall start with a gathering at the Bosnia and Herzegovina Square, at 11:00 hours (actually, a bit earlier), and shall proceed through Marsal Tito Street, the Ferhadija Street, to end at the Cathedral Square, where info-stand will be located with promotional materials. Distribution of promotional materials and open discussion with the citizens will take place in front of the cathedral. Having in mind the aim of the action to disclose all forms of violations of women rights, especially in the field of political representation and real participation in decision-making bodies, the citizens’ support in the preparation of the march and the related activities is more than welcome. For additional information or to confirm active participation, please contact Alisa Karovic at 033 207 257 or 061 515 094, or by e-mail at alisa@fondacijacure.org. |
