In Nine Days 10,000 Vote for Student Parliament

Over a period of nine days, the activists of the Youth Education Forum (YEF) collected 10,351 signatures by students for the petition to change student organizing in the country and establish a Student Parliament.

The petition signing officially started on February 15, and was completed yesterday (February 28, 2007), on the day of Elections for President of Student Union at “Ss. Cyril and Methodi” University (SSUKM).

In comparison, only 3,388 students cast their votes in the previous Student Elections, which is less than 10% of the total number of students at “Ss. Cyril and Methodi” University.

The petition aims to prove that the students are not satisfied with the treatment they receive from the state and the University, that they are aware of the sub-par student organization system (as represented by SSUKM) and that they want modern, democratic and pluralistic student organizing.
