EWI GPKT Cross-Border Micro-Grants

The East West Institute announces public competition for grants under its GPKT Project (Gnjilane, Presevo, Kumanovo, Trgoviste Cross-Border cooperation). The deadline for application expires on March 15, 2007.

The overall aims of EastWest Institute’s GPKT Project are conflict prevention and community development in the four GPKT municipalities – Gjilan/Gnjilane in Kosovo, Presevo in south Serbia, Kumanovo in Macedonia and Trgoviste in south Serbia. This micro-grant programme is designed to:

  • Encourage the development of functional cross-border and multi-ethnic partnerships between NGOs and civil society from different sides of the GPKT borders; and,
  • Support capacity building for civil society in the area and the development of organisational capacity for the implementation of cross-border and multi-ethnic activities.

EWI’s GPKT Project undertook two previous rounds of cross-border micro-grants in 2004 and 2005 through which twelve projects were funded. With the objective of encouraging cross-border partnership development the GPKT NGO & Donor Directory was published and the GPKT NGO Fair was organised in December 2006.

The GPKT Cross-border Micro-grants will be disbursed to selected partnerships of civil society organisations and will be tailored in two levels. The two-level system has been designed in response to feedback from the 2004-2005 rounds of grants, with the objective of allowing further opportunities to less experienced or new civil society organisations or groups in the GPKT micro-region.
