Safer Internet Day 2007 – February 6, 2007

On February 6, 2007, the Safer internet day 2007 event was organized in 31 countries around the world. The event was organised by European Schoolnet, coordinator of Insafe, the European safer internet network. Viviane Reding, EU Commissioner for the Information Society and Media was once again patron of Safer Internet Day, as in the past two years.

The main event for Safer internet day 2007 was blogathon that focused on the topic ‘Crossing Borders’. The blogathon is intended to showcase the multilingual materials produced by hundreds of schools around the world dealing with the risks and rewards of net use. Over the past few months schools have been collaborating to make net safety information dealing with e-privacy, netiquette, and power of image.

As part of the day, 20 of Europe's leading mobile operators - including Vodafone, Orange, Telecom Italia and Deutsche Telekom - have signed an agreement intended to offer greater protection for youngsters using mobile phones.
