OKC Juventas Celebrates 11th Anniversary

In 1996, a group of students, with financial assistance from the Montenegro Open Society Institute, started the work on the �Juventas� Youth Magazine. This initiative later transformed into the OKC Juventas (Youth Cultural Centre). The exact date was January 29, 1996.

OKC Juventas gathers high school and university students that wish to take active participation in social affairs, in order to have influence on their own future. Up to this day, over 1,000 young people were engaged in the implementation of various Juventas projects. The organization has over 100 members.

Although the seat of Juventas is in Montenegro, its projects are implemented all over Montenegro. The projects are designed for all citizens (primarily the youth and vulnerable and marginalized groups), the media, public and private institutions, NGOs and donors.

In the eleven years of its existence, Juventas has implemented over 50 projects in the fields of culture and arts; conflict resolution and human rights; healthy living and damage reduction projects; media and education.

The activities are implemented by young people, mainly former activists, volunteers, debaters and journalists at the magazine. The staff remains under the youth threshold, both in terms of their actual age and in terms of their energy. OKC generations change spontaneously, with those most active becoming expert associates, advisors or Board Members. One strong side of Juventas are its volunteers from all parts of Montenegro, people who shape the imaga and work of OKC Juventas through their creative energy and enthusiasm.

Juventas finds is cooperation with numerous schools, members of the press and media companies, governmental and nongovernmental organizations, domestic and international insititutions, to be of special importance. These partnerships provide for successful realization of many projects and activities and achievements of Juventas� goals.
