CRCA to Organise the first ever Tirana Child Rights Academy

The Children's Human Rights Centre of Albania – CRCA / DCI Section Albania announced yesterday, January 17, that it will organise the Tirana Children Rights Academy in 2007, the first event of its type to ever take place in Albania. The organisation of the Academy aims to bring children’s rights to the mainstream of human rights and academical level.
The Academy will be organised during one week (preferably between July and September 2007) in cooperation with the University of Tirana. The Academy is funded by Olof Palme International Center and SIDA, under the framework of the programme "The Rights of the Child is a Democratic Right". Some 40 representatives and staff from the Government of Albania and NGO’s are planned to participate at the first Academy. The aim is to strengthen the capacities of Government and NGO representatives to promote children’s rights in Albania and further advance the debate on children issues in the country. For this several prominent figures from Law, Social Sciences University, including senior representatives of international and national institutions based in Tirana (state and private) will be invited to present the latest developments on child-rights field, research and other issues and concerns. The Academy will combine lectures with debates and workshops, with participants playing an important role. Few scholarships will be offered to participants coming from other cities of Albania. Among the main themes that will make the core of the Academy will be: children’s rights: how we got here? International and national standards on children; Role of institutions in promoting children’s rights; The debate on children’s rights: where are we going? Budgeting for children, Girls rights, media and children, children from minorities etc. In the next few weeks more information will be available on the Academy. |
