Discussion on Application of Presumption of Innocence in Media and Judiciary

Tomorrow, Tuesday, December 19, 2006, at 17:00 hours, the Mediacentre Sarajevo will host the round-table discussion for journalists on the topic of Presumption of Innocence Principle and its Application in Media and Judiciary.

The members of the press will be introduced to the issues of implementation of international human rights standards, their concept and implementation by the judiciary and media in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The presentation of the topic will be given by Lucio Valerio Sarandrea, Legal Advisor with OSCE B&H, working on reform of the judiciary. Sarandrea will talk about international human rights standards, with special attention to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.

The applicability of international standards in media and judiciary in Bosnia and Herzegovina will be presented by Mehmed Halilovic, Deputy Ombudsman for the Media of the B&H Federation. After the presentations, the audience will have an opportunity to join the discussion with their questions and suggestions.

The discussion is organized by the Human Rights Department of OSCE Mission to B&H, in cooperation with NetNovinar – Centre for Investigative Journalism and Media Education.
