New Constitution Debated on Internet

In addition to the official referendum campaign and political commentary in mainstream media, the citizens of Serbia have the opportunity to get involved into online debate on the new Serbian Constitution, the solutions it offers and the reasons for the call to boycott the referendum.

Vojvodina based NGOs that promote the boycott of the coming referendum for confirmation of the Constitution, started an information web-site with news related to the reasons for boycott. On www.bojkot.info, the non-governmental organizations publish news and views of those organizations, political parties and individuals in favour of the boycott. The site offers the possibility to leave comments on the published news, as well as the personal views and opinions of the visitors, in the “forum” section.

Since October 9, 2006, the website of the Skupstinska mreza (Parliament Network) carries a blog titled Debate on the New Constitution of the Republic of Serbia. All interested persons can join the debate and post their comments on the proposed text of the Constitution. All comments will be compiled and published in a special report, which will be submitted to the heads of Parliamentary Clubs of political parties in the Skupstina.

"We hope that this will further contribute to democratization of political processes in Serbia. This is the opportunity, provided by the new technologies, for the voice of the citizens to be heard during the campaign on the highest legal act of the Republic of Serbia”, commented the Skupstinska Mreza.

A lively debate on the new Constitution also takes place on B92 Forum, B92 Blog Section, as well as Imagine Serbia forum.
