Labris: Proud of My Parents

Labris � Organization for Lesbian Human Rights from Belgrade, in cooperation with German foundation Filia die.Frauenstiftung and several institutions, TV and radio broadcasters from Serbia, launches the Proud of My Parents media campaign, designed to support parents and friends of lesbians and gay men.

The Campaign was motivated by the results of the Survey on Violence against LGBTIQ Population in Serbia, conducted by Labris at the end of 2005. Just seven percent of the total number of people covered for the survey met with positive reactions of they parents after they openly expressed their sexual orientation.

The campaign aims to support the parents of same-sex oriented children in the process of acceptance of their sexual orientation. The results of the survey show, in fact, that lesbians and gay men miss the support of the parents the most in the process of accepting their own sexual identity.

The Campaign will proceed in the period from October 15 to November 15, 2006, and will include a special conference for the media, television spot, radio jingle, site banner, printed material and a variety of activities to include parents that contact Labris.

The parents that may choose to ask Labris for assistance will be provided with psychological aid, through individual and group therapy. These services will also be available after the official end of the campaign. In addition, Labris website will open a special section for support of parents and friends of lesbians and gay men.
