Hedvig Morvai-Horvath is This Year’s Freedom Winner
Maja Marsicevic-Tasic was a journalist and politician, one of the most energizing and optimistic characters in Serbian public life. The Foundation named after her was established by the Civic Alliance of Serbia, by the efforts of Maja’s friends, for the sake of keeping her remembrance. The recognition prize, which is handed to women whose actions intercede in favour of affirmation of Human Rights principles, the Rule of Law, Democracy and Tolerance, is given at September the 24th every year. Previous winners were journalist Olja Beckovic, photographer Goranka Matic, writer Biljana Srbljanovic, Ruzica Djindjic and dramatist Borka Pavicevic. “Winning freedom for me means accepting responsibility for personal actions and future ones, for the spoken word, for the people surrounding us, for space and time shared with others. It is the responsibility to make your life and the environment you live in -the best you can”, says Hedvig Morvai-Horvat upon occasion of the prize. The prize was handed over to Hedvig Morvai-Horvat on Sunday, September 24, in the Center of Cultural Decontamination, Belgrade. |
