Dictionary of Gender Terms in the Process of EU Integration

The Union of Women’s Organizations of Macedonia (UWOM) presented its Dictionary of Gender Terms in the Process of EU Integration, aimed to provide for the use of gender sensitive language and respect for equality between women and men.

Over he past five years of great effort and activities in the process of European Union accession, SOZM has worked on the promotion of gender issues and their relevance for the integration processes. This new Dictionary should make an important contribution to the strengthened awareness on European integration processes and raise the awareness on the importance of gender issues.

„The establishment of European standards and the adoption of the practice of protection of women’s human rights are an important criteria for Macedonian membership into the EU. The Dictionary should accelerate those process and make them a priority of the National Strategy for Joint Action of civil sector and institutions of the state”, said Semiha Zejnelovic from UWOM.

UWOM believes that the Dictionary will prove to be a useful tool in the process of gender mainstreaming and increased information available to the women in the women organizations, the media, the state administration, local self-government and the general public.

The publication of the Dictionary, the first of its kind in the country and the region of SEE, was supported by the Governments Sector for European Integrations and German Agency for Cooperation and Development, GTZ. The Dictionary has already been promoted at UWOM offices in Veles, Prilep, Kumanovo and Tetovo.
