In April 2006, the Youth Advocacy Group from Zenica initiated a capaign for improved access and use of information technology in secondary schools in the Zenica-Doboj Canton. The initial step of the campaign was a series of meetings with officials from the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, with the aim to arrange for procurement of updated equipment and greater inclusion of ICT in the Schools.
Since the Ministry informed the Youth Advocacy Group that school principals plan the annual budget independently, the Group arranged for several meetings with secondary school principals during the months of May and June, in order to inform them about the role they shouls play in the process of finding solutions to the problem and their support for the Information Science in B&H Schools project. The principals accepted the obligation to enter a separate ICT dedicated line in their annual budgets.
In addition, the Youth Advocacy Group sent 35 letters of information to the members of the ZE-DO Canton Parliament (Attached to this article) and has organized a meeting, earlier this month, with the Parliamentary Committee on Youth Issues at which the two sides agreed to a future cooperation in the implementation of the project. The Committee will be responsible to present this problem to the Parliament as an initiative at one of the coming sessions.
The Advocacy Group currently works on a short documentary film on this topic and a round-table discussion with participation of all relevant entities that could contribute to finding solution of ICT in our education.
