CC Licence Localization in Serbia Starts

The Slobodna kultura (Free Culture) organizations, i.e. Wikimedia Serbia received at the end of August the Letter of Intentions from Creative Commons International, thus becoming official partner of Creative Commons.

This confirmed Wikimedia Serbia, as the leader of the project, as exclusive rights holder for localization of Creative Commons licences in Serbia.

The process of localization includes the translation of licences from English into Serbian language and adaptation of the original texts of the licences to the provisions of Serbian Law on Copyrights.

After the process of adaptation, harmonization, translation, public and expert debates – Wikimedia believes that the whole process may take between six months and a year to complete – and the launch party, Serbia will officially become a country with national CC licences.

According to Wikimedia, a number of campaigns, actions and debates will start soon to “break the ground”. All ideas and help are more than welcome and they invite all interested organizations and individuals to contact them.

In the meantime, Serbian organizations and individuals interested in production of free culture may use the generic licences (in English), available at the Creative Commons web-site.
