Save the Children Demands Improved Children Rights in Montenegro

Save the Children appealed to all actors in Montenegrin political scene to give priority in their political platforms and agendas to the improvement and protection of children rights.

"We believe that every political party that strives for democratic values and respect of human rights should create and take active participation in programmes based on the needs and rights of children. It is important to pay due attention to protection of marginalized groups and their inclusion in the society, especially children with special needs, delinquent children, victims of child-abuse and neglect, children without parental care and Roma children”, says Save the Children in a statement for the public.

The organization demands from political parties to adopt and work on reform of social policies and children protection system; budgetary provisions for protection and care for children, as well as creation and adoption of national strategies and action plans; secure conditions for implementation of all adopted regulations that treat children rights, as listed in the UN Conventions; to continue with the reforms of the education system to include all children.

The public statement adds that the process of stabilization and EU association presents the candidate countries with a set of criterial and that the EU analyzes the situation in the area of individual rights, especially children, elderly, disabled and poor people.

"Therefore, if Montenegro aims to become EU member state, it outhgt to implement thorough reforms, especially in the fields of education and social welfare”, warns Save the Children.
