Goletta Verde In Saranda

Legambiente's Goletta Verde to visit Albania
Legambiente's Goletta Verde to visit Albania
The Goletta Verde (Green Schooner) Campaign, implemented by Italian environmental NGO Legambiente will visit Albania, July 24-26, 2006. The visit, that will cover Saranda and “Butrint” National Park, is a part of the journey that touched other Mediterranean countries (France, Spain, Tunisia, Algeria, Italy, Greece, Albania and Croazia), to promote marine and coastal parks and raise citizens’ awareness on the need to protect a crucial resource for millions of people, the Mediterranean Sea.

Over the past few years, Legambiente has collaborated with the Italian Ministry of Environment, to focus on the natural parks of the Mediterranean, which are the main actors of conservation and safeguarding of natural environment unique in the world, and also an important instrument for the sustainable development of the area. At present, less than 1% of world’s oceans are protected. Therefore, it is important to act strongly in support of the protected areas in the Mediterranean basin.

Goletta Verde will discuss these subjects together with the Director of the Butrint National Park, Ylli Cerova; Sara Ceci from Legambiente’s International Cooperation Office (Italy); Andon Bojadzi, Director of Galicica National Park (Macedonia); Daniele Pedretti, leader of the Italian Cooperation Project “Towards the creation of the trans-frontiers Park of Prespa (Albania, Macedonia, Greece); and other representatives of civil society associations in Albania.
