Societas Civilis Demands Apologies
|
The “Societas Civilis” Institute for Democracy from Skopje demanded apologies from all persons and institutions that accused the institute for bias and partisanship and suspected their professionalism and capacities.
At the conference for the media held last week, “Societas Civilis” presented a comparison of their own prognosis on the outcome of the 2006 Parliamentary Elections with the official results published by the State Election Commission. “Societas Civilis” predictions were made on the basis of public opinion polls conducted prior to elections. The comparison demonstrates that the Institute for Democracy greatly predicted the correct results of the Elections, especially regarding the major political parties, for this the deviation of the prognoses from the actual results was less than half a percent point. With the smaller political parties, the deviation remains in the statistical error range of ±3%. The Institute also condemned the public attacks against its employees’ professional integrity and, above all, the assaults on the personal reputation and dignity of the first president of the Institute, Gjorgje Ivanov, who was charged from several sides of meddling with polls’ results and using them as means of political pressure on political parties running in the Elections. “Societas Civilis” demanded public apologies for inflicted injustice and insult and added that the results of the polls and the correct predictions confirms that science and scientific method will always prevail over daily politics and irrational arguments. |
