Monitoring Results on Implementation of National Roma Strategy Presented

The Soros Fundation, in cooperation with the Albanian Helsinki Committee and the Children’s Human Rights Centre in Albania – CRCA, organized today the seminar “The implementation of the National Strategy for improving of Roma’s conditions in Albania,” at the Tirana International Hotel.
The seminar aimed to raise public awareness and to inform the interested parties about the results of ongoing monitoring of the National Strategy for Roma. The monitoring of the Strategy was conducted by experts of Soros Foundation, AHC and CRCA. Participants in this seminar were the representatives from national institutions, local and international NPO-s, Roma minority, media, etc. In the first part the seminar was focused in the presentation of current situation of implementation of the strategy, raising the problems that had strategy during the implementation process and making recommendations by the experts that have worked in each area of the strategy, such as: education, culture, family, justice, health, economy, employment, etc. In the second part the seminar was focused on discussions, questions and comments. Discussion revealed the fact that Ministries and other responsible institutions have done a little on implementing the Strategy. Some of overall recommendations of this meeting were: review the strategy of Roma participation; making the objectives clear and in time framework; counseling and including Roma NPO-s on the monitoring of the Strategy; collaboration and promotion of strategy in local level, etc. A report that contains in detail the monitoring results of implementation of the Strategy for improving the life conditions of Roma in Albania will be soon published. |
