Youth on Tolerance – “Civitas” Camp Opens in Brcko
|
For the fifth time in a row, Brcko will host the youth from 32 B&H municipalities, who will come to the “Civitas” Education Centre for Democracy and Human Rights Summer Camp. The Camp was officially opened last Tuesday, and will conclude on July 14.
”Civitas” will use this camp to mark the ten years of its work with youth. The subject topic of the camp – tolerance – remains important and current even ten years after the war and gathered about 300 participants. The youth, coming from 16 elementary and 16 secondary schools in the country, will use the five days of the camp to engage in group work, have fun and visit several rural communities, meet the locals and conduct topical research. "B&H was a country of tolerant people, but the tragic past events have left a deep mark of disunity. The youth were the first to contribute and be an example of reconciliation that will be recognized by the whole world”, emphasized Suzan Johnson, International Supervisor for Brcko District, in her address at the opening ceremony. ”You can do it and don’t hold yourselves back in situations when you have an opportunity to tell the politicians in your own communities how to nurture and build tolerance”, said Milan Tomic, Mayor of Brcko. Rahela Dzidic, Civitas Executive Director for B&H, emphasized tolerance is a wide area for action and doesn’t concern only national relations, but many other types of relations in normal communication. The programme of the camp, according to Dzidic, is focused on these issues. |
