RSF Demands Parliamentary Debate on Status of Roma

On the occasion of July 13, Montenegrin national holiday, the Roma Scholarship Foundation (RSF) demanded from President Filip Vujanovic to do everything in his power to initiate a more efficient implementation of the Montenegrin Action Plan for the Decade of Roma Inclusion.

In the congratulatory note on the Day of Montenegrin Statehood, RSF asked Vujanovic to personally initiate the first parliamentary debate on the situation and perspectives of Roma and Egyptians’ status in Montenegro.

"The national conference on Roma inclusion, recently organized by the UNICEF, OSI and RSF, in cooperation with the Government of Montenegro, showed that the programme of Roma inclusion should proceed, in the future, in a much more organized and serious way, with funds secured in advance, adherence to deadlines and professional responsibility”, states the letter to Vujanovic.

"RSF believes that the support of the President to the creation of stimulating measures in domestic legal and economic system and ultimately more efficient involvement of the state in the programme of providing scholarships for Roma and Egyptians has great importance for the sustainability of mid and high-level education of these two groups in Montenegro. The national holiday is a good opportunity for us to remember that Montenegro, as a democratic state, can’t treat certain groups as second class citizens”, adds the letter.
