Code of Behaviour for Free and Fair Elections Signed

Representatives and leaders of 36 political parties in Macedonia signed the Code of Behaviour for Free and Fair Parliamentary Elections. The signatories promised to their opponents, but also to the citizens, that they will abide to the provisions of the Code and that they accept their share of responsibility for free and fair elections.

According to the Code, the elections will not violate the universal concept of “one person-one vote”. It condemns all forms of violence and manipulation before, during and after the elections. The political parties shall cease the practice of ballot purchases through goods and promises of employment, and shall end the bad practices of proxy and family voting.

The signing of the Code was organized by the U.S. based National Democratic Institute, in partnership with MOST and the Macedonian Women Lobby Group.
