FHP Demands Prosecution of Authors of the “Let’s Cut Some Throats” song

The Humanitarian Law Centre filed criminal charges against the anonymous author and performer of the song titled “Let’s Cut Some Throats”, on charges of inciting of racial, religious and national hatred and intolerance.
The song that openly praises the genocide in Srebrenica and calls for extermination of the Bosniak nation appeared recently on internet. The lyrics, among other things, talk about “slaughtering” of Bosniaks in Srebrenica as something that each member of the Serb nation should be proud off, while war-crimes suspects Ratko Mladic and Radovan Karadzic are hailed as heroes for the murder of 7,000 Bosniaks. The hodza, a Muslim priest and spiritual leader, is compared in the song with an animal that “squals”, and the song praises the destruction of Islamic religious buildings during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The general context of the song sends a clear message that the destruction of Bosniak nation is a historical need and would avenge the Serbian people for the treason (“This is your punishment for betrayal of your folk, you sold the cross, this is punishment by God”, says the song). HLC warns that denial and praise for the Srebrenica genocide and other grave crimes that took place in former Yugoslavia have been on the rise in Serbia, and demands from the authorities to punish such public excesses, in accordance with the Law. "The lack of criminal prosecution for such excesses insults the dignity of the victims and their families, and the society in Serbia is ever farther away from a true process of facing the past. The sanctioning of such acts is important if we want to establish a system of values in Serbia which will make crimes a horrible thing, the perpetrators of which should be punished, not praised. The inexistence of such system of values pushes Serbia into isolation, far removed from European integration processes”, said HLC in a statement for the public. |
