Environmental Press Centre Website Launched

On the occasion of the International Environmental Protection Day, the Croatian Environmental Press Centre launched its website, at www.alertonline.org/press. The continuing activities of this NGO aim to strengthen environmental journalism, which has an important place in the process of increasing awareness and understanding of environmental problems in the public, as well as assist the journalists in finding sources of information on the environment.
One of the activities of the EPC was the organization of the International Environmental Journalists Forum in Pozega, in June 2005. The Forum gathered 15 journalists from Croatia, Serbia, Hungary, Great Britain and France, representatives of state institutions, public enterprises, local self-government and environmental associations, as well as the President of IFEJ (International Federation of Environmental Journalists). The Forum discussed the possibilities for journalist action in cases of devastation of protected and endangered natural areas, opportunities for cooperation and the problems faced by journalists reporting on environmental protection issues. In addition to this big and important event, EPC members participated in environmental journalism workshops in Osijek, Belgrade, Zagreb and Budimpesta while individually, they participated in a number of conferences and symposia, such as the “Biodiversity in Europe” Ministerial Conference (Plitvicka Jezera, 2006) and the World Conference on Health and Environment (Budapest, 2005). According to the EPC web-site, this organization is open for cooperation on a variety of programmes, formal and informal initiatives, organization of educational and expert gatherings, research, publication and exchange of reports and other activities in the field of reporting on environmental protection and sustainable development. The Environmental Press Centre headquarters remain in Osijek, and the office is headed by Ljiljanka Mitos Svoboda. |
