OSCE and Albanian Interior Ministry to Discuss Voter Lists

The legal and sub-legal framework for the preparations of voter lists ahead of the forthcoming local government elections will be the focus of a roundtable discussion today (May 24), jointly organized by the OSCE Presence in Albania and the Albanian Interior Ministry.

The Ministry and its General Directorate of Civil Status will present instructions to mayors of local government units on how voter lists are to be compiled. The instructions have been drafted by a working group of the Interior Ministry, supported by the OSCE Presence under an EU-funded technical assistance project for the preparation of voter lists.

Tomorrow's event will bring together key government officials, members of the newly established Assembly's Ad Hoc Committee on Electoral Reform, and of the Central Election Commission, mayors and civil society representatives, as well as experts from the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, the European Commission Delegation to Albania, the International Foundation for Electoral Systems and the US Agency for International Development.
