European Green Party Supports Eko Kvarner and Zelena Istra Efforts

The 4th Congress of the European Greens Party, held last weekend in Helsinki, adopted two resolutions giving full support to the efforts of Eko Kvarner association regarding the construction of LNG terminal in Omisalj, as well as the activities of Zelena Istra’s activities to prevent the construction of golf courses in Istria.

In the first resolution, the European Greens demand the stop of the “LNG-mania” in the Adriatic, i.e. that the Italian, Croatian and Slovenian governments change their decisions regarding the LNG terminals planned to be build on the island of Krk and in the Bay of Trieste, and to consider the possibility to construct a joint venture terminal in the open waters of the Adriatic.

The second resolution, “No to Golf Courses – Yes to Permaculture and Ecology in Istria”, calls on the Croatian Government and the Istrial District authorities to change their tourism development plans for Istria, especially the urban plan, which includes plans for construction of 22 golf courses in the district.

Having in mind the fact that the European Greens party is represented in the European Parliament and represents a relevant political force in the Union, the Croatian authorities will find it difficult to ignore the demands presented in the resolutions.
