Objection for Peace Caravan 2006
The peace activist Caravan entitled Objection for Peace, organized by the Regional Network of initiatives for Conscientious Objection (CO) in Southeast Europe is starting its journey through the cities of the region on Tuesday, May the 2nd and will travel until the 15th of May 2006. The Caravan will begin in Skopje and then continue through citiesof Prishtina, Belgrade, Novi Sad, Osijek, Banja Luka, Sarajevo, Mostar, Šibenik, ending in Zagreb.
Members of the Regional Network of initiatives for CO and organizers of the “Objection for Peace” Caravan are Antiwar Campaign Croatia, Campaign for CO in BiH, Regional center for CO of Vojvodina, EBCO Balkan, Youth House Nis, Peace Action Macedonia and Nansen Dialogue Center Montenegro, War Resisters International, Balkan Youth Without Borders, oneworld - platform for southeast europe as well as many activists, individuals and groups who gave their support. Activities of the Caravan include street actions, “food, not bombs!” actions, peace exhibitions, POI and jugglers performances, creative artistic and “do it yourself” workshops, film screenings, DJ performances, slam poetry, “Open“ radio, theatrical performances and plays, painting graffiti with peace messages over hateful and nationalistic graffiti, “on the spot“ workshops for creating promo materials such as T-shirts and other, “give and take” stands for free exchange, shops, concerts, and more, The Caravan invites all persons to join in and who want to promote ideas behind the Caravan - to create a creative presentation of ideas, messages and values thereof. The Caravan “Objection for Peace” was first organized in 2005, and just as last year, it is designed and organized with dedication and care so as to create, bring and spread positive atmosphere in all towns on the Caravan map and everywhere in between. On its route, the Caravan will visit 10 cities in the region, make over 200 activities happen, gather over 150 volunteers, reach tens of thousands of people, and will give out a large number of informational, educational and other materials. The Caravan will also be the region-wide opportunity to celebrate the 15th of May - International Day of Conscientious Objectors, with actions in Zagreb on that day that will be the voice requesting the abolishment of conscription in the whole region. The Caravan is a rare and unique platform that gives a new, alternative insight to our societies, and presents that conflict, violence and hatred are not and cannot be the solutions to anything, and that the creation of the culture of peace is the only way to build future in the region and the world.
