Macedonia Wins WITSA Award

Macedonia won the 2005 WITSA Global IT Excellence award for computerization and wireless internet in its schools, informs Minister of Science and Education, Azis Polozani.

Polozani informed the media yesterday that the Ministry won the IT Excellence award presented by the U.S.-based World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA). The award was presented in the category of “Digital Perspectives”, for the “Macedonia – First Wireless Country” project.

According to Polozani, all primary and secondary schools are now equipped with computers. However, he expressed his concern with the low levels of internet use in the schools.

Polozani announced the the Ministry intends to install internet connections in the student dormitories, although the current Budget doesn’t provide sufficient funds for that purpose.
