Stefani, Nano and Veliaj React to Berisha-Sollaku Conflict

Press analysts Andrea Stefani, Mustafa Nano, and the MJAFT! Movement, reacted on Monday 17 April, in a joint press conference, organized MJAFT! offices, on the strong conflict between Prime Minister Berisha and Attorney General Theodhori Sollaku playing out in the media.

Andrea Stefani expressed his concern about what he called “the political fashion of accusing and counter-accusing without any concrete proofs”.

“This ugly habit”, said Stefani, “has created a blackmail fashion: when politicians have proofs, they hesitate to involve the Justice institutions, as a result, they use these proofs for political blackmailing. When blackmailing triumphs, justice shuts up”.

Mustafa Nano was alarmed about what he called the disobservance to the legal system and Constitution during this whole conflict.

"Personally, as a citizen and as a journalist, I am quite alarmed, since the same person, in different time and functions, once as President of the Republic and once as the Prime Minister, has continued to hit on the legal system and on the Constitution. With this I mean the continuous endangerment Berisha made to the universal principle of innocence presuming. Each of us is innocent until the Justice, and no one else, proves the contrary”, said Nano, adding that he reacted this way to protect the principles of Democracy and the institutions, and not to protect special individuals.

Erion Veliaj, leader of MJAFT, reacted expressing a significant fact, which according to him shows how little not only the Albanians but also other countries trust the Albanian Institutions.

"While the basic institutions of the Albanian justice power are being attacked, several countries of the European Union have stopped the extradition process with the pretext that the justice processes here are prejudged and that individuals are judged or incriminated by politics and not by the judiciary system”.

At the end of his statement, Veliaj mentioned a secondary but important fact. "It is becoming normal that every weekend of this spring the citizens are being denied a bit of their peace and are being frightened by all kinds of accusations” decaled Veliaj adding that last weekend the citizens wanted to celebrate the resuscitation of Christ and not the resuscitation of fear.
