Ljubljana Factory Squated

On March 25, the implementation of a new social programme to open the space for production of independent and non-for-profit programmes started in the former “ROG” bycicle factory in Ljubljana.

This is not a classic occupation squat, but rather a change of function of factory facilities. The 7,000 square metres of space in down-town Ljubljana have been left to decay for the past 15 years.

One informal group decided to take initiative and act. Until the municipality proposes a clear strategy to solve the problem of this facility and start the reconstruction projects, the group will make it open for all individuals and groups that work in non-for-profit activities in a variety of areas.

Something that started as a protest and political provocation have turned slowly into a birth of a new unity. At this moment, the whole action involves about a hundred of individuals and numerous cultural and social organizations, such as Zivadinov, the Afriski Center Association, Kapelica, SKUC, Ljudmila, Izbrisani, and many others.
