Round Table Discussion: ARK Legacy

The Croatian Anti-War Campaign (ARK) and the Centre for Peace Studies will organize a round-table discussion ARK Legacy 1991-2005: How to Preserve and Present Material and Immaterial Records of the Work of the Greatest Peace Network in Croatia. The discussion will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2006, at the National and University Library in Zagreb, from 11:00-14:00 hours.

It is the highest time to ask the question whether we should take systemic action to collect and store the records and evidence of the work of ARK, i.e. the history of civic self-organizing in the 1990s (and late 1980s) with the emphasis on the initiatives directed at peace action and democratization. Who might need the records? How should we treat them? Which institutions could help? Can we define creative alternative solutions?

The round-table discussion aims to gather participants in civil initiatives and organizations they created, members of academic community, the audience for materials we intend to safe-keep – University students and Peace Studies students, as well as information sciences experts, representatives of institutions that work on safe-keeping of cultural heritage and development of civil society. The organizers aim to gather in one place all individuals and institution that could become part of the solution of ARK archives.
