Food – Not Bombs! Action

Last Saturday, 28 February, the third “Food-Not Bombs!” action was organized at the Bosnia and Herzegovina Square in Sarajevo. The action was organized by the Sarajevo collective “food-not bombs!, with the goal to support the informal citizen group that has been gathering as of December 2005 in front of the Square of the earlier BH Parliament, and in order to simply discuss and publicly talk about the problems that bear a heavy weight on the majority of the Bosnia and Herzegovina citizens, female, male, and surely all others.

Warm, fresh vegetarian food was available to all participants and interested citizens who joined the peaceful protests (that usually begin at noon on Saturdays), and there was a distribution of printed materials about the Food, not Bombs!, initiated in Massachusets (U.S.) in 1980. The activists of the Sarajevo collective promoted the culture of peace and non-violence, and distributed free copies of the Live CD Linux.

This activity was organized as a direct support to the farmers that protest in a make-shift tent settlement in front of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Square for 250 days now, demanding from the BiH government to respect the rights and interests of B&H farmers and agricultural producers, i.e. the rights that provide for improvement and strengthening of B&H economy.

The activists initiated the Square support gatherings at the end of 2005, with the aim to animate all citizens to take action for change and remind the citizen-individual that she/he has the power to change the situation in the country.

The initiators of the action have very simple demands to the leadership of the country: to resign or to be replaced due to the lack of motivation threof to represent the interests of B&H citizens.

Activists of the “’tis enough!” informal group want to stimulate the citizens to think and vote with their own heads and to ask themselves firstly: what kind of person do I want want to see representing me as a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina, both witihn this country and around the globe.

This type of civil initiative is not very common in B&H, and in spite of the importance and encouragment actions as this one and alike may bring, we ought to strive and remind at all times that only an active participation of the whole citizenship can contribute to improving standards of living on the entire BiH population.

“’Tis enough” - informal group - organizes gatherings at the Square every day, starting at 17:00 hours, while Saturdays are intended to include the “food – not bombs!” action as well.

The “Food Not Bombs” collective Sarajevo invites all to join them in collection and distribution of food, in support of the “’tis enough plateau-goers”, farmers and all marginalized citizens; to the people that wish to raise their voice against the currently imposed unhealthy ways of daily living, including apathy, monotony, hopelessness, cruelty, nationalism and separatism; invitation is open to those who want to act, react and abandon the cocoon of collective awareness; to all those that have had enough of what has been/have been served with and to those want to change something - worldwide (starting with their own world).

All visitors, regardless of whether intended or random shall be welcomed to and offered a fresh vegeterain (and, by default, so far, delicious) lunch/meal, and an opportunity to share their ideas, wishes, dreams, with other co-citizens alike and equal.

Interested individuals are welcome to bring a slogan, musical instrument, or any other creation they feel is missing, so as to both support this initiative, themselves, and the process hereby initiated.

For additional information, those that wish to join the initiative or contribute food should write to fnbsarajevo@gmail.com.

All are welcome:)
