Report: Child Abuse In The Albanian Family

The Children's Human Rights Centre of Albania – CRCA, the Information and Research Centre for Children's Rights in Albania - IRCCRA, in cooperation with the Olof Palme International Center, on the occasion of the International Day of Human Rights (10 December) promoted their latest report 'Child Abuse in the Albanian Family'.

The research titled 'Child Abuse in the Albanian Family' was prepared by a team of Albanian experts, including those of CRCA, during a period of two years. The preparation and publication of the research is funded by the Olof Palme International Center, a long-term partner of CRCA.

This is the first report in Albania covering the issue of child abuse within the family. The report is based on qualitative data and interviews carried out with abused children, parents, state an private institutions. The Report covers all social, legal and practical attitudes towards child abuse in the country and children themselves.

"I'm very pleased to announce the finalisation of this report on a special occasion, the International Day of Human Rights”, said Altin Hazizaj, Director of CRCA and co-author of the research. “The time has come to say STOP to child abuse in Albania too. We have to deal with out children in a civilised manner."

The research contains eleven chapters, and deals specifically with definitions of child abuse, legislation and policies, social attitudes towards child abuse in the family, profile of abusers and of the abused, case studies, and a detailed list of conclusions and recommendations.
