Five-day visit of Serb displaced youth in Kosh and Berkovë ends

Under the auspices of the “Continuance of plan concretization through increase of contact” project, implemented by the three implementing organizations: “Syri i Vizionit” from Peja, “Vision 02” from Istog and “Jug” from Kraljevo, the five-day visit of Serb youth displaced from Kosh and Berkovë villages of the Istog and Klina municipality, respectively, ended several days ago. The IDPs currently live in Kraljevo and Kragujevac, cities in Serbia.

“The aim of the visit was to inform the displaced youth about the actual situation and the new reality in Kosovo, especially in the villages they have left since the end of the war. For most of them, this was the first visit to their houses since then”, said Dafina Nishiqi, Project Manager.

During the visit, youth of the two villages paid different visits which included; visits to their houses, some of them newly reconstructed by the Danish organization, Danish Refugee Council – DRC as well as visits to other villages, such as Videjë and Osojan.

Meetings were held with officials from the two Klinë and Istog Municipal Assemblies, where the visitors had the opportunity to make inquiries on matters of their interest.

To familiarize with the work of nongovernmental organizations working in there are, displaced youth met with representatives of NGO “Syri i Vizionit”, “Danish Refugee Council”, and “Initiative for Peace” based in the town of Peja. They also visit Peja Patriarchy and youth of Gorazhdevc village.

According to the Ms. Nishiqi, “after this five-day visit, youth that came from Kraljevo and Kragujevac were very pleased and it is worth mentioning that it is this visit has impacted on them to think more positively and has increased hopes that in a near future they will think
of returning to their villages of origin”.

The Project is financially supported by Kosovo Initiative Program, which operates since January 2004 in the Western Balkans, namely in Serbia & Montenegro and Kosovo within the Neighbourhood Program (NAB).
