Public hearings on illegal settlements in Montenegro

MANS, the UN Development Programme, LO Podgorica and the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Spatial Development are organizing public hearings on issues of illegal settlements in Montenegro. Public hearings will be held in all Montenegrin municipalities and so far there was 14 out of 21 meetings held with citizens of Montenegro.

The Purpose of public hearings is to hear citizens’ opinion on ways and procedures for treating illegal developments in Montenegro. The Ministry has formed a Working Group that will review comments and suggestions obtained through public hearings and compile a brand new act on illegal developments.

Within this initiative, a media campaign was launched called “My legal home”. Second round of public hearings will be held in February 2006 and it is planned to result in a Draft-Law on illegal developments.
