Jovic Heads B&H Delegation at WSIS

Ivo Miro Jovic, the President of teh Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, on invitation of Tunisian President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, heads the B&H delegation that participates in the work of the Second phase of the World Summit on Information Society (WSIS).

The Summit is held under the patronage of UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, and the preparation activities were led by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

The Summit will discuss the issues of governing the internet and its financial implications, the protection of human rights and status of developping countries. Also, the Summit will review the implementation of the UN Millennium Declaration.

It is expected from the Summit to adopt series of decisions and recommendations directed at the reduction of te digital gap, which should provide for better distribution of knowledge and fruits of technological progress between the North and the South.

The UN Summit held in New York, earlier this year, addopted the finanl document that provides precise directions for improvement and development of productive sectors in the developping countries, so that they would be able to participate more effectively in the process of globalization.

Ivo Miro Jovic will address the Summit today, in the afternoon session.
