The Olympic Armistice Appeal is a call for peace, in the name of the true values of sports and Olympic Games. The decision to sign the Appeal in Sarajevo is a symbol of support for the values of multiethnic co-existence and intercultural dialogue. Sarajevo has been, and will be again, the symbol of these values throughout the centuries.

“In the name of preservation of all values dear to the heart of our city, I wish that the Olympic Armistice turns into a decisive step towards global peace”, said Semiha Borovac, the Mayor of Sarajevo, in the signing ceremony.

Borovac also thanked the Italian region of Piemonte, the Province and the City of Turin, on the initiative to invite Sarajevo, the host city of the 1984 Winter Olympic Games, to sign this initiative. Turin will host the next Winter Olympics in January/February 2006. (www.sarajevo.ba)
