Zelena Akcija Activist Fined for the Attempt to Inform the Public about Violations of the Law

An activist of Zelena Akcija environmental association was accused on misdemeanour charges of “...obstruction of normal traffic”, for his part as coordinator of the action “Yellow Lane Reserved for Trams”, held on May 3, 2005.

During the action, the Police didn’t stop any of the vehicles that used the yellow lane, thus violating the traffic regulations. Our activist, on the other hand, stood on the pavement for the whole duration of the action, and gave statements for the media.

The selective approach to the sanctions policy was used, in spite of the officially declared support for the freedom of action and information for the NGOs, designated to inform the citizens on environmental problems, and in violation of the current legislation in the EU and in the Republic of Croatia.

The Zelena Akcija activist announced an appeal to the pronounced sentence. While we support the rule of the law and are prepared to pay the fine, we demand that all citizens receive equal treatment under the Law.

For more details on the action, visit the description of the action and the attached photo gallery on the web-site of Zelena Akcija and make your own conclusions.
