Questionable Waste Management Strategies

Zelena Akcija Environmental Association questions both the contents and the procedure for adoption of Waste Management Strategy, prepared without the participation of the experts community and the general public debate, and was available for outside comments and review only at the point of its entry into Sabor (Croatian Parliament) procedure.

The draft of the latest Waste Management Strategy of the Republic of Croatia leads to the conclusion that it uses the vision of the so-called “non-waste dump approach”, which is an unrealistic and dangerous approach, having in mind that it designates communal waste incinerators as the sole alternative to the waste dumps.

Also, Zelena Akcija says that, in spite of the fact that it puts a strong emphasis on the importance of avoiding to throw waste, the Strategy doesn’t mention the goals and deadlines related to the desired reduction in creation of waste.

The whole article is available at the web-site of Zelena Akcija.
