Novo Virje Dam Won�t Be Built

The fifth International Days of the Drava river gathered the local and regional political figures, guests from Hungary, Slovenia and Serbia and Montenegro, representatives of the associations involved in the Drava River League, Zelena Akcija, and lovers of the Drava River.

The subject theme of this years event was �Sustainable Tourism � Future of the Drava Basin�. The participants discussed the possibility for use of this area in a sustainable way that will cause no devastation of the natural environment.

Josip Friscic, the Zupan of the Koprivnica-Krizevci County, announced that the County shall make the protection of the river its priority.

Similar position is held by Zvonimir Mrsic, the Mayor of Koprivnica, as well as the mayors of the surrounding municipalities. They announced that the plans to build the Novo Virje Dam will be abandoned and excluded from all urban plans of municipalities in the County.
