ASPHER Presents George Soros with the Prestigious “Andrija Stampar” Award

George Soros won the Andrija Stampar Award for contributions to Public Health
The philanthropist George Soros is this year’s laureate of the prestigious “Andrija Stampar” Award for Extraordinary Contribution to Public Health. The award was presented at the 27th Annual Conference of ASPHER (Association of Schools of Public Health in The European Region), held in Erevan, Armenia.

”We are very pleased by the fact that this important award that carry the name of Andrija Stampar, the founder of public health in Croatia, went to Mr. George Soros. In addition to Mr. Soros himself, this is also a recognition of the dedicated work of the Public Health Programme ran by the Open Society Institute, which creates and implements public health projects in over 50 countries in the world”, said Andrea Feldman, the Executive Director of Open Society Institute Croatia.

George Soros is the founder and financier of the Open Society Institute and the Network of Soros Foundations that implement activities in more than 50 countries in the world.

The Open Society Institute Croatia was established in 1992, as a support for the democratic development in the country. After the initial phase which concentrated on providing humanitarian assistance to the country at war, the Institute supported numerous initiatives in the areas of education, media, arts and culture, public health, law and economy, and has contributed greatly to the creation and development of civil society in Croatia.

OSI Croatia is currently involved in the Open Society Forum programme, the Roma Programme, as well as Facing the Past Programme.
