Osijek Chairman of Military Housing Commission Accused of War Crimes

The prosecution authorities in Osijek have started the investigation on the criminal charges brought up against the Chairman of the Military Housing Commission, who is accused of war crimes and crimes against the civilian population.

In April 2005, the Centre for Peace, non-Violence and Human Rights from Osijek, on the basis of facts and information it collected about forced expulsion of tenants from apartments owned by the military, but also private homes, at gun point and under threat of death, brought up charges against the then Chairman of Military Housing Commission of Osijek, for war crimes against civilian population.

The National Public Prosecution Office accepted the request for disqualification of the District Prosecution Office in Osijek. The delegated District Prosecutot ordered the Police Department of the Osijek-Baranja District to start the pre-investigative activities.

The Centre for Peace, non-Violence and Human Rights expects a correct and serious investigation of the charges. All persons that suffered damages will be asked for official statements.
