The Weather Changes

The Summer of 2005 should be remembered for its climatic and temperature volatility and diversity. Although we could witness the evident impact of climatic changes, only this year could we follow the consequences of climate change on the Earth.

This, however, refers only to the “masses” of humanity, for global leaders and people in power have “figured out” what awaits us over the coming decades years ago.

The American media couloirs mention, for quite some time now, a certain secret report, covered up by the heads of U.S. Department of Defense. The “leaked” analysis presents the results of military-scientific research which were later used as a basis of hypothesis on the future of the human race and its environment.

Unrest and conflict will become endemic characteristics of life... The climate change over the next 20 years could create a global catastrophe and millions of casualties in wars and natural catastrophes. These are just some conclusions reached by the authors of the Pentagon sponsored report.

The dark prophecies coming from American defense laboratories say that, over the next 15 years, the sea-levels will rise, the big European cities will be flooded, while the U.K. is facing “Siberian” climate. The world will be engulfed in nuclear warfare, mega-draughts, famine and unrest.

The fact is, however, that the rest of the humanity already knows the American film industry well enough, as well as the expansionistic policies of spreading of democracy and free consumer society, so, we should accept these key “secret” findings of the Pentagon with caution and preparedness to all sorts of mischief that the Bush’s team is ready to organize for us.
So, the extensive report, prepared under the leadership of a certain Andrew Marshall, Defense Advisor with the Pentagon, predicts that “...by 2007, heavy storms will destroy to coastal defenses of the Netherlands, and cities such as the Hague will be abandoned... Between 2010 and 2020 Europe will be hard hit by the climate changes, with average annual drop of temperatures of three degrees...” The Great Britain will freeze. Access to water will become the main battlefields: the Nile valley, the Danube and the Amazon are mentioned as high rist points. California, too, will take its share of hardships while “... internal conflict and tension will cause the break-up of India, South Africa and Indonesia”.

Typically American is the conclusion that the number of killed by war and famine will reach millions, until the total population reaches the number that the planet can support. The report ends with the warning that millions of refugees, fleeing the increasingly unfavourable climate, wars and poverty will rush the rich “fortresses” and “cities on the hill” such as the U.S. and some parts of Europe. According to Peter Schwartz, Consultant with the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency), this report will have to be taken into account when deciding on the new American national security strategy.

In any case, this Pentagon Report, or maybe it is intentionally leaked imaginary scenario, has found fertile ground in many countries. The catastrophic events and emergencies, such as the deadly tsunami, torrential rivers, hurricanes, forest fires, devastating earthquakes has only contributed to its plausibility. We shouldn’t also ignore the inexplicable plane crashes and road accidents, as well as killing people in oil wars.

The climate scenario has become a serious phenomenon, having in mind that it is used as basis for many strategic plans and decisions. Also, we can’t but notice that the current political situation on the planet was produced, to some extent, by evaluations of the climate changes, which are used by those in power as political and financial threat.

There is a chaos in Europe, indeed – climatic, political, social, economical, environmental, scientific, you name it. For instance, while Portugal and Spain simmer this summer on the “global” fire, floods and rain has submerged the Central Europe. New snow has whitened the southern Swiss Alps, while a Scottish University in Edinburgh develops a rather unusual project.

As it happens, the British Government has allocated the finances to a 63-old professor of mechanics to work on his “turbine sprinkler”. The invention is a propeller that, raised 35 metres above sea surface, spins and produces small waterdrops that could create a cloud which will be then transported to the land that needs the water. According to the head of the project, some 100,000 such sprinklers could solve the needs for moisture (not, nota bene, satisfy the complete needs for water) in a part of the African desert.

Beyond any doubt, the humanity has divided into good and bad guys, the first using their brains to destroy the Earth, the latter to constantly prove them wrong.

Anyway, we have all realized that we have gone too far with the changes of living conditions on the Earth. There is no escaping the beating that the Nature has prepared for us, so we should at least start preparing the bandages to heal our wounds and bruises.

The only problem is that the beating will be collective, the healing, on the other hand, will be individual.
