The overall political situation in Albania after the Elections of July 3, 2005, as well as the series of meetings with the leaders of the two major political parties, have forced Alfred Moisiu, the President of Albania, to demand from the State Elections Commission to release the final results and more details and information on the Election.

Moisiu, according to sources in his Office, sent an official request to the CEC with demands for more information on the Election results, in spite of the strong opposition of his advisors and constitutional lawyers, who warned that the President might find himself in a breach of the Constitution if he called for the new Parliament to convene, unless the CEC fails to announce the Election results within the appropriate deadlines.
Sali Berisa, the leader of the opposition Democratic Party and the likely new Prime Minister, demanded from Moisiu to call for the new Parliament to convene and enable the new Government to start working as soon as possible. The DP believes that the results of the repeated polling in three Election Districts would not have significant impact on the final results of the Elections.
On the other hand, the Socialist Party of the incumbent Prime Minister Fatos Nano, asked the President to wait for the final deadline of August 12 and to call for the Parliament to convene after the CEC has published the final results.
