In an attempt to curbe the littering, Croatian Ministry of Environment starts a campaign to collect plastic and glass bottles.
Starting next year, the shops in Croatia will start paying half a Kuna for every empty bottle used for sale of beverages and soft drinks, announced Marina Matulovic-Dropuli, Minister of Environmental Protection.

The citizens will be able for every empty bottle (glass or plastic) or can used to sell juice, milk, beer or any other beverage, get a compensation of 50 Lipa per container larger than 0.2 litres, regardless of where they made the initial purchase.

All shops with more than 200 square metres of available space will be obligated to collect the bottles and cans from the citizens and compensate them. The smaller shops can also join the collection activities, but they are not legally obligated.
