Protests Over Shooting of Stray Dogs

The Kotor Association for Animal and Environmental Protection protested the continued action in Bijelo Polje to eliminate stray dogs from the city, during which over 700 dogs were shot dead.

The action for elimination of stray dogs is conducted by �Lim� communal services public enterprise, in cooperation with the �Bijelo Polje� Hunting Association.

Nevres Djeric, President of Kotor Association, said that this was not the first instance of giving an �... inhumane and barbaric treatment to our old friends, the dogs�.

�This is sad what is going on, especially in Bijelo Polje, which we considered as a town that has taken the road of European integrations and a more civilized life. It is sad that Tarzan Milosevic, the Mayor of Bijelo Polje, never heard of the possibility to provide shelter to the stray dogs. I believe that he would not allow for innocent animals to be killed and hunted down, since it is not done anywhere in the world�, said Djeric.

Djeric added that the Association for Animal and Environmental Protection has submitted several initiatives to the Government and the competent Ministries to start the construction of animal shelter, as the only way to solve the problem of stray animals in urban environment. Djeric also pointed out the necessity to adopt a Law on Animal Protection.
